FltSatCom F8

FltSatCom satellites are U.S. Navy geostationary military communications satellites used to guide surface and submarine vehicles and maritime task forces. Development of the FltSatCom system began in 1971, and the first F1 satellite in the series was launched on February 09, 1978. This was followed by another 7 satellites. With the launch of F8 on September 25, 1989, this series ended. The expected life span of the satellites was up to 5 years, which the last two active satellites F7 and F8 already have exceeded by far.
